inspired by a recent journal entry of ~eqos ([link]) i have come to the conclusion that there should be an Artisan subcategory within the Manga/Anime category. if manga and anime get their own full-fledged category which is then split into subcategories for the medium used, then it should go all the way, right? textiles and other 3-D artforms are a totally legitimate way to express your artistic impulses, be they anime/manga influenced or otherwise, so it is only logical that there be a subcategory within anime/manga for artisan craft-created pieces, since that's how that category works.
here i sent in a suggestion on the suggestions forum: [link] which goes into more detail, plus i sent a note to the person in charge of the Manga/Anime gallery, ^guruubii
If you agree with this cause, take action! send your own note with your own reasons for this change to ^guruubii, but make sure you put something about anime costumes in the subject line.

i don't hate anime or manga, in fact i quite enjoy both. but this change would be for the benefit of anime fans AND non-anime costumers, everybody wins, what a great solution.
edit: both ^guruubii and ^dedredhed, directors of manga/anime and artisan crafts, respectively, have told me that they've considered this and think it's too complicated to implement. i'm not really sure why, niether of them gave much of a solid explanation. Lots of people are in support of this idea. It's always difficult to make changes in a large bureaucracy. I guess we'll see what happens...

I woud like to see categories for historical, theatrical, fantasy and cosplay. I know this would cause some people problems in knowing where to post eg historical & theatrical - The guidelines for me would be authentic materials/construction woud be historical, modern materials/contrsuction would be theatrical. but then there's the authentic materials with modern construction - if hand finished I think I would like to see those costumes in historical...
I think the gallery descriptions could be written clearly enough to aid people when deciding which gallery to post in.
My pet peeve is that artisan crafts seems to have too few categories whereas some other genres have so many it is difficult for artists to choose where to post their work, not just in textiles!
I'l check out the forum and the petition but if you've had a reply then I think you need a lot more people on board to make any changes.
